Marjorie Matthews St Taylor – Four Bedrooms, Media Room, Three Bathrooms
Contemporary, Sustainable First Home
This four-bedroom, three-bathroom home (including a media room) was designed to meet the clients' vision of a modern, unique home that prioritises sustainability and energy savings, all while being cost-effective for their first home.
Client’s Vision:
The clients sought a contemporary design with standout features that reflected their individuality. Sustainability and energy efficiency were key priorities, along with ensuring the project remained budget-friendly.
Builder’s Approach:
Balancing modern aesthetics with practicality, we incorporated features that enhanced both functionality and design while keeping costs in check.
Key Features:
- High Raked Ceilings: The living room and lounge area feature raked ceilings, creating a sense of openness, improving air circulation, and supporting passive heating and cooling.
- Natural Light Maximization: North-facing fixed windows were strategically positioned to capture natural light and warmth, while solar-powered, opening skylights in the bathrooms reduce the need for artificial lighting and improve ventilation.
- Custom Joinery: Bespoke cabinetry throughout the home adds a sense of luxury. In the kitchen, a panelled door to the butler’s pantry seamlessly integrates into the wall, maintaining a cohesive design. The centerpiece is a 40mm stone waterfall island bench, combining functionality with striking visual appeal.
- Bold Exterior Aesthetic: The garage door and front façade feature durable, low-maintenance metal interlock cladding, chosen for its modern look, textural interest, and sustainability. This material ensures longevity while contributing to the home’s distinctive character.
By combining innovative material choices, smart design features, and sustainable solutions, this project exemplifies how a first home can be both stylish and environmentally conscious.
